Passing the time while we waited for the rain to stop.
Walking into the zero entry pool. This is Tripp's "cheese" face.
That afternoon we headed back to the house for lunch and naptime. When the kids woke up we were pleasantly surprised the skies had cleared and decided to head down to the beach.
Even Camille got to catch a few waves with her Daddy.
Always my babies...Although Tripp will now say "No Mommy, Camille is your baby. I'm your big boy."
That evening we ate a quick dinner at home, got on our bikes, and went out in search of an ice cream shop. I will start by saying the trip was a TOTAL FIASCO. We mapquested our location to Seaside (we wanted to go there and let the kids run around on the green space) and realized it would be about a 20 minute bike ride. No problem, right?!?! Wrong. The bike ride took us way longer than mapquest estimated a "runner" should take. We were about 20 minutes in when we saw a storm coming our way. It came on so fast. I swear it was completely sunny when we left. We decided to turn around because the wind was starting to blow hard and Seaside wasn't anywhere in sight. 15 minutes later we made it back to a small ice cream shop in the resort next to ours. It was tiny and behind a few buildings. Not exactly what we wanted, but it was ice cream nonetheless. We parked our bikes, walked into the store that could barely fit our family and the Doroughs and started to order ice cream. When I say it started to pour less than one minute after we made it into the shop, I mean it started raining cats and dogs. The kind of rain that makes you pull your car over and wait it out. Only, there was no waiting this storm out. The rain kept coming, lightening included, and left us all wondering how on earth we were going to get ourselves and the kids home. After about 20 minutes, the guys decided they would chance it. We were only a 3-5 minute bike ride from home so they left to get the cars for us. I was so nervous they would get struck by lightening, but they made it back safely. The rain was still coming down in sheets when they brought the cars back. Both guys were soaked and they still had to ride the other two bikes home. Whew! Thankfully nobody was hurt and the kids were able to stay dry. Those Florida storms are no joke and I'm being serious when I say the storm came out of nowhere. I'm so thankful for a great husband that will do ANYTHING to keep his wife and babies safe.
Friday and Saturday, the weather was no better. We never got to go back to the beach because it basically poured off and on both days. We put on our swimsuits Friday morning, but our plan to go to the pool and beach was quickly foiled by the rain. We did a few rainy indoor activities with the kids before nap and then put them down to sleep. The rain briefly stopped during naptime so Lyn and I rode the bikes to a few shops to look around. That evening, the weather started to look iffy again, but the rain held out so we fed the kids, let them ride their own bikes in the driveway, and then walked to a green space that was a minute from the house to let the boys run.
Saturday it was pointless to even put on our swimsuits. We woke up and started planning out what we should do with the kids. We had been talking about taking the older boys to the movies for a few days and figured this would be the day to make it happen. Lyn and I checked into the times for the movie "Planes," asked our husbands if they minded watching the younger two (they didn't in the least), and got ready to head to the theater. Tripp and Max were so excited. They both quietly watched the entire movie. Lyn and I went prepared with snacks and also bought small bags of popcorn so the boys could have the whole experience for their first movie.
Waiting in line for our tickets.
Movie selfie. Tripp was more interested in the previews.
Pretending to be planes after the movie. It was STILL raining.
That night, we drove to Grayton Beach and ate at Shorty's for dinner. The food was awesome. After dinner, we went to the Zoo Gallery and bought the boys t-shirts. Tripp's has pictures of Safari animals on it. Like I've said before, he loves anything to do with animals. We went home that night, packed up, put the kids to sleep, and had adult time with our friends. That is one thing we got to do every night and I really enjoyed it. We headed home bright and early the next morning. It may have rained A LOT, but the rain didn't get in the way of our fun. We are already talking about our next beach vacation next summer.
