A case of the sickies

Something nasty is going around at my house and this pregnant gal does not want to catch it.  Rob woke up yesterday with a low grade fever, weakness, nausea, and vomiting.  Tripp's symptoms started two nights ago, but he's only had a mild case of crabiness, a low grade fever, and a runny nose.  I'm trying to be a good nurse to the boys all while preventing myself from also scoring the virus.  Disinfectant and good handwashing, good handwashing, good handwashing are my best buds right now.

My New Love

Yes, it's true...The Dennis Family will be adding another little bundle of joy to the mix in September!  We are super excited for Tripp to be a big brother and for ourselves to become parents again.

A few common questions we've been asked...
~Was this planned?  Absolutely!  We got pregnant so easily with Tripp and were blessed to have the same thing happen again this time.  I'm definitely thankful for my fertility because I know it's not always as easy for everyone.
~How are you feeling?  TERRIBLE!  I'm not quite sure if it's worse this time around or if it's just harder being nauseous when you have an energetic toddler running around.  Either way, Zofran has become my best friend.  It doesn't completely cure the nausea, but it does take the edge off.  I feel bad all day long, but I mainly need it in the afternoon and evening when my nausea becomes unbearable.
~Where are you delivering?  Northside Hospital in Atlanta.  It's the best delivery hospital around...in my opinion.  And, I do work there in the NICU so I'm very familiar with it.
~Are you showing yet?  It doesn't look like I'm pregnant yet...just that I may have eaten an extra large meal.  I do have a small bump, but under my clothes, it's very hard to tell.  Right now I've been dressing to disguise what looks like an extra layer of abdominal fat.  I'm sure in a few weeks, I'll be showing more and maybe even have to move into maternity pants.  It really came on a lot faster the second time around.  The funny thing is that I haven't even gained any weight yet, but my belly sticks out a bit.  I know it's just that growing uterus.
~Are you craving anything?  Not in particular, no.  My nausea is so bad, I'm just lucky to find things I can tolerate.  Most everything sounds pretty bad...except carbs.  I know this will change once I get over the "morning sickness" in my second trimester.
~Are you going to find out what you're having? If you know me, the answer to this is easy...OF COURSE! I'm such a planner and to Rob and I, finding out at our 20 week ultrasound is just as exciting as the day of delivery. Plus, we want to be able to go ahead and name him or her when we find out the sex. I like referring to the baby by his or her name rather than "baby." Not that I think it's wrong to wait until delivery...Some people just have a lot more patience than I do! And no, we aren't hoping to have one sex more than another. We just want another healthy baby boy or girl.

And without further adieu...here is the little bean at my first ultrasound a few weeks ago.  He/she is much larger now, but I wanted to post the first ultrasound picture because it is always one of my favorites.  Seeing that little heartbeat for the first time is absolutely priceless.

Out of Town

I know I've been a little absent lately, but we've been super busy around here and I really haven't had the time to sit down and blog.  I worked this past weekend and we were out of town the two weekends before that so...busy, busy, busy is the name of the game.

The first weekend we went out of town was a quick overnight trip to the lake to spend time with my parents and siblings.  It was a fun night.  My Dad, brother, and I each took turns taking Tripp on the four-wheeler for the first time.  He absolutely LOVED it!  He has a small batman power wheels at home and was in absolute awe of the super-sized Power Wheels!  We took him up and down the street for about an hour.  He definitely could have stayed on all night and was NOT ready to get off when we all went inside for dinner!  Later that night, we ate, put Tripp to bed, and played a few games.  It was such a fun, relaxing night!

The next weekend we went to visit family in Louisiana.  My family is huge so we weren't able to see all of my extended family in the two days that we were there, but we were able to see my Grandmother and several of my cousins.  We stayed with my cousin Almie, her husband Darrell and their two children, Reese and Evan, at their house in Mandeville.  We always have such a fun time hanging out with them.  We went to two Mardi Gras parades and ate WAY TOO MUCH KING CAKE.  Is that even possible?!?  Nah, you can never have enough King Cake...especially from Randazzo's...yum!  We even brought one home to my parents since you just can't get good King Cake here in Georgia.  Nothing even comes close.  Inside the Randazzo's bakery there were huge piles of boxed King Cakes...all made that morning.  It just goes to show what a great business they run.  We chose a traditional King Cake since it's my favorite, but there were plenty of filled King Cakes there as well.  The place smelled absolutely heavenly.

"Olympia" Parade in Downtown Covington

"Throw me somethin' Mista!"

Tripp was way too interested in the floats and bands to take a family picture.

"Thor" Parade in Metairie

Tripp loves horses.  He kept pointing and saying "Neigh, Neigh."

Crazy little man running the streets after the parade

I'm so glad we were able to take Tripp to New Orleans for his first Mardi Gras.  I only wish we could have stayed longer and gone to some of the larger parades that run closer to Mardi Gras Day.  We definitely have something to look forward to next year!
