Tripp's 2nd Birthday Party

This year, since I'm pregnant and Rob is pretty busy with his masters classes, we decided to do a family only birthday party for Tripp.  His real birthday is June 21st, but we had his party on July 7th since that worked best for us.  The morning of his party, Rob and I ran a few errands and picked up the cake while my parents watched Tripp. After he went down for his nap, Rob and I worked feverishly to get everything set up so he would be surprised when he woke up.  His face lit up as soon as he came downstairs!  He couldn't stop talking about the sesame street decorations hanging all over the house.  He pointed out every character in site.  When he noticed the big pile of presents in the corner, he exclaimed "Presents," ran over to them, grabbed the biggest one, brought it to me, and said "open."  I made him wait until everyone finished arriving and then we let him tear into them.  I had to help, but it was so cute to see the joy on his face when he learned what was under the paper.  He wanted us to take each toy out of the box right after he opened them.

We enjoyed spending time with just our family that day.  To make things super easy, we ordered pizza for everyone.  Pizza is probably one of Tripp's favorite foods so I figured it would be a special treat at his party.  We all hung out, chatted, and played with some of Tripp's new outdoor toys as we waited for our food to settle.  Then, we went back inside and sang Happy Birthday (Tripp calls the song "Happy") and ate cake and ice cream.  I rarely give Tripp any sweets, so I didn't know how much he would eat, but he was putting globs of icing into his mouth like he hadn't eaten in a week.  An icing man, that's my boy.  Don't get me wrong, I think you need cake and icing together, but I'm the type of person who wants the corner piece.  The more icing, the better!  He actually started asking me to scoop the balloons (which were huge globs of icing) off the cake and give them to him.  I ended up having to cut him off because we got worried all that sugar would make him hyper.  Good thing we don't give him sweets very often or my child would be addicted!

So excited to wear his Elmo hat

Layla needs a hat too

Going to play tennis like his Daddy

Which camera should I smile for?
